General Questions

Being military veterans, we are mission focused and results driven.  While most charitable organizations focus on addressing problems, our #1 goal is to solve problems. We would love nothing more than to be so successful that we’d have to shut down our organization and do something else.

When we say we’re a “direct action” organization, it means we’re going to take the donations we receive and directly apply them to our missions ourselves to solve problems–we’re not taking funds and then giving them to other organizations.  (Why would we?  Others have had plenty of time to solve these problems and haven’t done so.)

The vast majority of funds received by our organization are (and will be) used for acquiring historic buildings/structures and rehabbing them for use (our first mission);  once we rehab the buildings to include civic, residential, and commercial space, it costs us nothing to allow businesses to occupy the commercial spaces to generate economic growth and jobs in the local area, AND, it costs us nothing to require those businesses hire “at risk” military veterans and local youth for job training, work/management experience, and breaking the cycle of government dependency.  Therefore, each dollar we receive from donations is used to solve three separate–and very distinct–problems facing the Appalachian region.

Initially, we are looking for small towns (preferably, less than 3000 total population) in the Central Appalachian region, which have been economically devastated by the Federal Government’s multi-decade war on fossil fuels, which has a lot of vacant buildings in their downtown area.  As we seek to make the biggest economic impact possible, this will be our focus for the foreseeable future. As our organization grows, so will our scope, and will seek historic buildings/structures throughout Appalachia–to include very large cities.  But, if you’re aware of any historically-significant buildings that need saved, let us know and we’ll take a look at them!
